3 Plumbing Tips to Save Money on Your Water Bill

Everyone likes saving money, and we’re sure you’re no exception. Your monthly water bill in Brevard County is probably significantly lower than your electric bill. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t save money every month by practicing a few simple plumbing tricks! We’re here this month to show you the top three easiest ways to save money on your water bill. Not only will these tricks help your wallet, but they’ll also help your plumbing health!

1. Practice Good Shower Habits

The shower is an easy place to get lost in your thoughts while relaxing before or after a long day. We’ve all enjoyed a nice, hot, long shower – nothing wrong with that. However, if every shower that you or someone in your household takes is one of these long showers, your water bill is going to take the hit. Four minutes of each shower translates into 4,000 gallons of water every year. By reducing your shower time and installing a low-flow shower head, you can reduce your water bill as well as save on your gas/electric from the hot water.

2. Use the Dishwasher

dishwasher with a full load of dishes

Dishwashers always use less water than hand-washing unless you’re extremely conservative with your water usage. It’s estimated that running a full load of dishes will use about 1/6 less water than washing by hand, and it will also save you time. Running the dishwasher when it is full will also ensure that you’re only running it when you need to. Pro Tip: Do the same thing with laundry: only run the laundry when you have a full load to wash!

3. Get Toilet Problems Fixed ASAP

A faulty or leaky toilet can create big problems for homeowners. You aren’t just running the risk of water damage and puddle problems. Your water bill can also take a big hit with many toilet issues. This is because faulty parts and leaks can cause your toilet to use more and more water every time you flush. Sometimes, toilets can even run constantly (check out our article on running toilets for more information!). If there’s no reason for an increase in your water bill, it’s time to call a professional plumber in Brevard. Your toilet might be the cause!
